In addition to our editing-proofreading services, we offer an Editing Workshop intended for those – including attorneys and staff and business executives – seeking to improve their editing and proofreading skills, whether editing your own writing or that of others. The workshop is intended for those who live in the NYC metro area and takes place either at our offices in midtown Manhattan or at your offices, at a date and time selected by you. It can be attended by one or more persons (see below for details).

Regardless of your interests and skill set, you probably function in a very competitive environment. In such an environment, a well-written document can give you a crucial advantage over the competition. For example, an attorney’s confusing opinion letter is not likely to impress prospective clients, nor is a poorly written legal memo likely to sway the judge. Similarly, a badly crafted business plan is doubtful to attract investors. And even a single typo in an otherwise excellent cover letter when you’re applying for a job may cost you that job.

Editing Workshop gives you the background you need to become a better editor and the confidence you should exhibit when editing the documents of others. The workshop reviews the basic rules of grammar, offering a wealth of examples of how these rules apply in the creation of error-free, clear and concise documents. Extensive handout material is included plus additional exercises to further sharpen your skills.

Among the subjects covered are: avoiding awkward sentences; creating sentence variety; turning passive verbs into active verbs; making sure there is agreement between subjects and verbs, between nouns and pronouns; using punctuation marks correctly; checking for commonly confused words; finding answers to grammar questions on the internet; using proofreading marks and “track changes” in word processing programs.

Attending an Editing Workshop could not be easier for those in the NYC metro area. Either you come to our place of business (we are conveniently located in midtown Manhattan) or we come to yours. You select the date and time. The workshop lasts approximately two hours and is conducted by Robert S. Want (see homepage). The cost is $195 if given for only one person; $125 per person for two or more people. Extensive handout material included at no additional charge.

To reserve a date and time for a workshop, please contact Mr. Want at rwant@LegalEditor.com.
